Volunteers for Homestead Exemption Act

The Homestead Exemption Act has been passed by the Georgia Senate, but needs 5,000 signatures to get on the Ballot.

The Homestead Exemption is an exemption applied to property taxes for those who own their own homes. The money is collected as a 1% Sales Tax in the county. All the income from the Sales Tax is supposed to be used to offset the property taxes paid by Homeowners in the county. The BOC was keeping 30% of the money collected for their General Budget. This has been reduced to 25%, BUT, according to the Statute, 100% of the money collected should be used to offset property taxes for homeowners that own their own homes.

The legislation to enforce the BOC to distribute 100% of the money collected to Homeowners has already been approved by the legislature, but has to be approved in a ballot by the citizens of the county to become enforceable law.

The Signatures that are collected cannot be electronic signatures. The petition must be physically signed to count, and for that we need your help.

We need to go door to door to get the signatures we need.

We will gather at 10:00 A.M. at the appointed place where you will be shown how the signatures must be gathered to be legal.
